Marriage is a gift of God, in the joining together in unity of a man and a woman for life. It is to be both celebrated and protected. People have appreciated having their wedding conducted by an Anglican minister at St Mark’s, because of the heritage-listed church building and the significance of the Anglican wedding service, which affirms, from Genesis 2:24, that, “a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.”
In order to be married at St Mark’s, the first step is to clarify an available date in the church calendar through the Office Manager. There is then the task of filling in the respective legal paperwork (a NOIM: Notice of Intention to Marry form), having several sessions of marriage preparation and finally, a wedding rehearsal before the day of the service. The process for this is as follows:
- If you are active members of another Anglican church, then your current minster is expected to prepare all the paperwork, lead all the preparation classes, the rehearsal and the wedding service itself. The cost of renting the church building and a Verger is $1,400, the Hall $350 and the Lower Lounge for post-wedding refreshments is $250 (GST inclusive).
- If you are active members of a non-Anglican denomination, then your minster is expected to prepare all the paperwork and lead the preparation classes. An Anglican minister at St Mark’s will take the wedding rehearsal and the wedding service itself. Whilst your own minister is welcome to preach at the service, the St Mark’s minister is required to conduct the ceremony. Your minister will also need to make a time to come into the St Mark’s office (at least one month before the day of the service) and fill in the NOIM form. The cost of renting the church building and a Verger is $1,400, the Hall $350 and the Lower Lounge for post-wedding refreshments is $250 (GST inclusive).
- If you are not regular church attenders, after booking a date with the Office Manager, the next step is to attend one of our Sunday church services (9am, 11am, or 6pm) and speak to one of our ordained ministers at the end of the service. Couples are then expected to meet at least three times with the minister to fill in the paperwork and take part in the marriage preparation classes. The minister will organise the dates for the preparation classes and the wedding rehearsal date with you. The cost of renting the church building and a Verger is $1,400, the Hall $350 and the Lower Lounge for post-wedding refreshments is $250 (GST inclusive).
- If you are an active St Mark’s parishioner, or a relative of a regular St Mark’s parishioner, then the minister will speak to you about organising the paperwork, marriage preparation classes and the associated costs, after you have contacted the Office Manager and booked a date.Part of the cost of using St Mark’s church, includes the provision of a church organist, fresh flowers and pew decorations. If you would like to speak beforehand to the organist or florist about your preferences, then please speak to the Office Manager at the number below. For further information, please contact our Office Manager, by either ringing on (03) 9882 3776, or sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
