Delving Deeper, the church’s discussion forum for the relationship of faith and wider issues, is relaunching on Sunday afternoon 2 May, 2:00 PM @ St Mark's. The topic will be a recent influential book, which argues that it is Christianity which provides the foundational basis underpinning the modern world, not Greek or Roman philosophy, or the Enlightenment. For example belief in the dignity of the individual and hence human rights, individual freedom, democracy and even secular government, are the product of Christianity. Chris White will introduce the book, including showing clips of the author, Tom Holland, discussing it with Christian luminary Tom Wright, and Ian Barns, parishioner at St Jude’s Carlton, and an independent researcher on Christianity and various aspects of modern society, will respond. There will be a substantial time for Q&A and for more informal discussion over afternoon tea.
