Praying with our vicar

The following prayers were presented by our Vicar Greg Allinson during the online service on July 12, 2020. They are based around the sermon reading from 2 Peter 1. We hope these prayers will encourage your personal devotion and prayer this week.

Dear God,

We praise you for giving us faith to believe in Jesus.

We praise you for declaring us to be right with you because of our salvation through Jesus.

We praise you for that common bond of faith amongst all Christians.

We pause to pray for one other person we know …

We pray that they might have abundant grace and abundant peace.

We pray that they might grow in the knowledge of God and of his Son Jesus Christ.

Dear God, we praise you that you have given us everything needed for life and godliness, and we pray that we might bring you glory through our lives.

Dear God, we pray that we might put behind us the broken desires of this world and the things in this world.

We pause to confess the things this week that we have desired more than you and instead of you….

We pray that you will inspire us by your Holy Spirit to make every effort to live out our faith.

We pray that we would indeed strive for goodness and that we would live lives of virtue and excellence.

We pray that we would be excellent at forgiving others.

We pray that we would grow more and more in our knowledge of you. Help us to want to keep hearing from your word in many and varied ways.

We pray that you would give us self-control. Help our passions to be your passions.

We pray that you will give us endurance – endurance as we fight this pandemic.

Help us to support and pray for our governments as they make policies.

Help us to care for those that need support.

Help us to encourage those on the front lines.

Help us to be disciplined in our actions.

We pray that you would make us godly people; that we would do as Jesus did.

We pray that you will give us mutual affection. Help us to love in thought, word and action the people of St Mark’s and beyond.

Lord God, please show us now who we should particularly reach out to in love today….

Finally, Father, help us to be people of love;

That we might love our neighbours as ourselves,

That we might love one another as you have loved us,

And that we might be people of love more and more.

Accept our prayers, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who taught us to pray:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and forever.

Amen.
